When one thinks of desert, the words isolated and/or dry pop up to mind. Due to this, it's difficult how cities are capable of being this much in bad shape. Around the world, there is a myriad of deserving communities that don't have a place to go to get fresh food and vegetables. As a former resident of Texas, the closest thing my family had to a food store was a gas station, so I know a thing or two about traveling far for something to eat. In my Junior year of high school, I chose this same topic as part of an environmental project for no apparent reason, but it changed this time around. Beginning my Senior year, I looked at the statistics and numbers of foods at a high rate, much to the surprise of my classmates. While walking on 26 street, I've noticed how there is a large amount of pointless stores for quinceañera dresses and barber shops and not enough food, healthy food preferably, stores or small shops. Nowadays, humans find it crucial to work out more than usual and eat healthy to get in better shape later in life, which is why there should be a minuscule amount of fast-food restaurants.
Thesis Statement
The effects of food deserts are rough, but with summer drawing nearer, I see it as the perfect opportunity to show the improvements of food deserts and raise awareness on it.
