I lived in Texas for a year and although it wasn't the stereotypical cowboys and gunfights shenanigans, EVERYTHING was far away. The closest thing to where I stayed was Texaco, a gas station, and that took a good 10-15 minutes walking. Because of all the expressways, downtown was the main area with shops such as Target and Wal-Mart. Of course, fast-food restaurants such as Jack-In-The-Box and McDonalds were ahead of HEB, the "nearest" supermarket. For those who don't know, HEB is a large supermarket company based from San Antonio with 300+ stores in Texas. The downfall, however, was that it was approximately 20-30 minutes away and just barely under 9 miles away!
